Alandi is a town and a municipal council situated in the north of Pune district. It comes under the jurisdiction of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA). Alandi is close to the cities of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad and belongs to the Pune Metropolitan Area. The famous Indrayani River is passing through the centre of the locality. It is a Perennial River, and bathing in the river has special significance for pilgrims to Alandi. Since Alandi is a major place of pilgrimage, the economy of the town revolves around that activity. Although the major festivals are held only twice a year, pilgrims from all over Maharashtra come to Alandi throughout the year. It is situated 22.7 km away from Pune city. It is an area with great potential for investment. Other prominent localities situated close to it are Charholi Khurd, Charholi Budruk, Moshi, Chimbali, Bhosari etc. Thakur Vasti, Gharkul, Dudulgaon, Dhayarkar Wadi, Kale Colony, Indrayani Nagar, Vahile Nagar, Bidkar Vada, Anandgram Society, Kate Nagar Colony come under Alandi. Earlier, Alandi was known as only a religious town but is gradually gaining popularity for infrastructural and economic developments. A number of roads such as Alandi Road, Dehu-Alandi Road, Chimbali Road, Alandi-Markal Road, Alandi-Vadgaon Road are passing through the locality. Dehu-Alandi Road is the major road which further links Alandi with Pune-Nashik Highway (NH 60). Alandi is one of the most well known places of pilgrimage for Hindu Marathi people because of the town’s association with the 13th century Varkari Saint Dnyaneshwar. Being a rural place, farming is still an important part of the economy. Traditionally, Groundnut cultivation has been important around Alandi. Some of the premier residential projects in Alandi include Goyal Shree Ganesh Galaxy, Ravi Kiran Phase 1, R K Lunkad Alankapuram II, Triaa Punyavaastu, Arihant Kate Estate, Tanish Vatika among others.
Connectivity
The 15 km long Dehu- Road connecting the pilgrimage centers of Alandi and Dehu is being widened. These roads connect Alandi to main city areas such as Hinjewadi, Moshi, Chikhali, Aundh and Vishrantwadi.
It enjoys excellent connectivity to Pune International Airport which is situated at a distance of 17.2 km via Charholi Road.
Akurdi, Chinchwad, Pimpri, Kasarwadi are its nearby railway stations. However, Chinchwad is the nearest and major railway station to Alandi, situated at a distance of 15.5 km via Spine Road.
A number of major roads and highways such as the Nashik Phata Flyover, Ring Road and Mumbai – Pune Highway are being built or expanded.
Pune-Alandi Road is one of the important roads passing through PCMC limits linking Pune with Alandi.
Factors for past growth
A number of local people commuted to city of Pune and Industrial areas around Pimpri for employment. The close proximity to these places also has attracted new immigrants to the town who can not afford to live in the more expensive Pune.
Alandi now has a few big IT parks and industrial areas. This accessibility makes it a preferred residential area for working professionals. Some of these offices include Tata Communications (VSNL), Commerzone and Talwade. The key industrial areas around are MIDC-Bhosari, PCMC and Markal. As a result, there has been a surge in the demand for residential apartments in Alandi.
Proposed & Planned Infrastructure
The locality has planned to develop the 15 km long Dehu- Road which will be widened in two phases. The 8.25 km stretch from Dehu Village to Moshi-Jadhavwadi border will be constructed first while the 6.8 km stretch from Moshi-Jadhavwadi border to Alandi village will be developed in the second phase. This road will pass through the villages of Moshi, Talawade and Dudulgaon and will connect two pilgrimage centres of Alandi and Dehu.
Under-construction of two roads by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in Charholi to ensure better and quick connectivity to the Lohegaon Airport.

PMRDA has also taken up major infrastructural projects such as the 128 km Ring-Road, a 23 km long Metro line, and 20 town planning schemes to help develop Pune region as an investment hub.
