    Overview

    Ghatkopar West is a well developed suburbs situated in the north-eastern parts of Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra. It is considered as major residential zone and the area is dotted with mid and premium range projects. The locality offers good connectivity to areas like Juhu, Santacruz and Khar among other important areas of Mumbai. It has Ghatkopar Industrial Estate nearby which is a major hub for many companies and manufacturers. Chandivali, Varsha Nagar, Feroz Shah Nagar, Vikhroli East, Pant Nagar, Chandan Nagar, Powai, Andheri East, Kalina, Mumbai, Bandra Kurla Complex, Kurla etc are its neighbouring localities. Areas such as Kurla, Dharavi and Mahim are also well connected to the area along with other zones in Central Mumbai. In recent years, northern Mumbai, particularly the Andheri-Jogeshwari-Goregaon belt, has been the focal point for a number of infra projects including Coastal road projects, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, Mulund Goregaon link road, Colaba-Seepz, Dahisar to DN Nagar and Dahisar east to Andheri metro corridors and elevated roads are some of the major projects the government has undertaken to improve the east-west connectivity.

    Connectivity

    Connectivity with this region has improved significantly due to the several projects undertaken by the govt. The Sion-Panvel Expressway and Eastern Express Highway are two major connectivity lifelines for residents and connect the area to several places in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane alike.

    It has excellent connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which is located at a distance of 5.7 km via Andheri-Ghatkopar Road.

    The BEST bus network is highly active in the area while the Central Railway Station is also easily accessible from Ghatkopar West. Ghatkopar, Vidya Vihar, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Tilak Nagar are its nearby railway stations. However, Ghatkopar (W) is the major and nearest railway station to Ghatkopar West, which is located at a distance of 650 meter via Hirachand Desai Road.

    Operational Metro Line 1 Of Mumbai Metro with one of its route (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) is passing through the locality. Ghatkopar is the nearest metro station to Ghatkopar West.

    Factors for growth in the future

    Owing to huge infrastructure push by the state government towards easing commuting in western and eastern parts of the cosmopolis, northern region will continue to be at the base of real estate activities in the days to come.

    The ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli) when completed will provide connectivity among the existing Western Express Highway.

    It close proximity to business district of BKC along with SEEPZ & MIDC offers IT spaces and industrial spaces respectively.

    Proposed & Planned Infra

    The ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to DN Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).

    The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started work on the Metro-6 corridor (Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Kanjurmarg). The Metro-6 will be the second and only Metro line to improve connectivity between the city’s eastern and western suburbs.

    Civil construction works of the Metro-4 corridor (Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavali) is expected to start in April 2018. The Metro-4 corridor will be a 32.32-km stretch with 32 stations and it will be fully elevated.

    Mumbai’s east-west connectivity to get a boost with two more Metro corridor Lokhandwala-Kanjurmarg corridor and the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan corridor (Metro-5).

    BMC to commission Powai to Veravali water tunnel arm and Powai to Ghatkopar this year.

    Under construction India’s first bullet train between Ahmedabad and Mumbai will run at a maximum speed of 350 km per hour, covering the 508-km stretch in under three hours.

    Proposed seven new sewage treatment plants (STPs) in Colaba, Worli, Dharavi, Bandra, Bhandup, Ghatkopar, and Malad.

    Infra development (Social & Physical)

    The social infrastructure in the region is good. There are several schools, colleges, hospitals, banks, restaurant and amusement parks in Ghatkopar West. The schools and colleges in Ghatkopar West include Sheth Virchand Dhanji School, The Universal School, KVK Ghatkopar Sarvajanik School, North Mumbai Welfare Society’s High School, Theresa High School, Little Flower English High School, All India Education Society High School, KLAY Prep Schools & Daycare among few.

    Healthcare facilities are also good in the locality. The list of major health institutions in Ghatkopar West include Horizon Hospital, Nulife Hospital, Parakh Hospital, Sarvodaya Hospital, Nagher Samaj Hospital, Dhanwantari Hospital, Care Hospital etc.

    Due to its strategic location, this high street has attracted a number of national and international retail brands, as well as exclusive cafes and restaurants. The locality has a good retail market with malls, shopping plazas, shopping complexes, retail outlets, stationery shops, and grocery outlets. These include Phoenix Market City, The Platinum, Sagar Bonanza, R Odeon Mall, Jethva Tailors, Milan Shopping Centre, and R City Mall.
